Welcome to Europe
Welcome to Europe is not just a performance — it is a guided tour through a museum that sets itself up on every stage it visits. This living museum challenges audiences to move through rooms of memory, identity and politics, questioning what it means, today, to be European.
In building the performance Welcome to Europe, we invited migrants at each venue to share their stories of migration. One of the people interviewed in Ovar told us: “I think the hardest part of emigrating is really being far from the people you love. I think it’s really hard. Each person carries a memory. A unique experience.”
Throughout the journey of Welcome to Europe, visitors are confronted with questions: Why have hate speeches become almost commonplace? How did immigration become the weapon of choice for the new populisms? What kind of Europe are we actually building — and for whom?
